Fixing Loving Eliot Groussé
035. Poem
Hunkered down at a library desk and working perilously on a piece of paper in front of her. Marina's eyes scoured the sheet for errors and perfect imagery. The ear buds plugged into her skull made it impossible for her to hear Eliot calling for her. The library limited his voice and he was already once reprimanded for yelling in the library.
Hasir Mandell is the librarian in charge of managing the volume level for the whole local library. He was quite fond of Marina because she helped out a lot around the library. This was who Eliot looked out for the most and was jealous of the most.
Eliot took long angry strides to Marina's side and then tapped her on her shoulder. At once she jumped out of her seat and shrieked, but when she saw the upset face of her beloved she hugged him. "Sorry," she said into his chest. He felt her warm breath through his clothes and restrained a smile.
"I know," he said and wrapped her up in his strong arms. Around the corner of a bookshelf Eliot saw Hasir glaring at them. He didn't know if it was out of jealousy or the loud shriek he gave Marina, but Eliot still gave him the middle finger. He hoped Hasir got the message.
Marina pulled away and looked up at him with excited eyes. I've been working on a present for you," she said. Marina turned to the table she was working at, picked up the piece of paper, and then proceeded to look excitedly up at Eliot's unamused, unimpressed face.
"What is it? A fucking drawing?" he said harshly before bending over to peek at the papers but Marina pulled it away with a firm, sly smile.
"No peeking, Eliot!" she whispered loudly with a finger on her lips. He frowned.
"Well? What is it?" He was eager to see what his little wife had made him.
With a cocky tilt of her head Marina said, "It's a poem." Eliot made a funny face.
"That's it?" He had to admit it was a little disappointing. She had gotten him all riled up, but how could he have gotten so excited about something on a sheet of paper?
In a cute voice she said, "It's not just some poem I wrote. It's written especially for you. You should feel honored."
"Oh, I am. But I was expecting something with a little more weight." And he did feel honored, very much so. He didn't put her through college and university for nothing. She had so much to thank him for and all she had to repay him with was a small poem?
"Don't worry. I graduated with top marks." She gave him a kiss on the lips. He rethought his last thought: she gives him poetry written especially for him, and her love and kisses everyday.
"Yeah, I know. That makes me so proud."
"Let's go home, I'll read it to you on the way."
