making journeys come and go

Getting up from the chair, Ray Schieffer outstretched his arms and embraced her tightly.
"Ahh," he said, "welcome back! You have made your registration at the Symphony?"
The girl nodded as Ray be-gan to lead her out of his office, down the hall, and into a bright room with cameras, TV screens, lights, shades, racks of clothes, and lots of surgical material.
Hesitantly, the girl asked, "Will it hurt?"
"Of course," Ray replied, "but imagine what you will look like when the procedure is complete and an Angel you will be?"
The girl giggled and blushed, a thought of her lover crossing her mind. She happily did what she was told and the operation began.
Hours later, Ray Schieffer sat in his chair once again, another man standing before him in the office.
Ray looked unconcerned, but the man opposite him appeared quite worried.
"Why do you keep saying she is dead?" the man asked. He looked as if he were about to cry.
"That is because the operation failed and we have sent the Symphony after her. She is as good as dead," he explained. The man crumpled to the floor, sobs shaking him, and moans echoing throughout the office.
